Amie Bakery Cafe, located at G01/228 La Trobe Street in Melbourne’s CBD, is a contemporary bakery and café catering to a steady stream of commuters, office workers and weekend visitors. The brief was to deliver a functional, elegant shopfit that brought the brand’s clean, minimal identity to life. The space needed to accommodate a compact kitchen and prep area, a visually appealing service counter, and comfortable customer flow—all within a limited footprint. The client was clear: the space had to be calm and uncluttered, with a light, welcoming palette and high attention to finish.
We managed the full joinery scope, collaborating with the client, designer, and other trades to get the layout and materials just right. Our first step was to translate the design intent into practical, buildable joinery elements that could be fabricated off-site and installed with minimal disruption. Every piece—from the service counter to custom shelving and integrated storage—was built in our workshop to match the café’s layout and operational needs.
We used light-toned timber laminates, matte finishes, and simple lines to keep the space open and inviting. The joinery was detailed to hide equipment and cables while maintaining accessibility for staff. We also made sure the flow from front-of-house to kitchen allowed staff to move easily during busy service periods without impacting the customer experience. All installation was done to tight timeframes to allow the café to open on schedule.
The completed space is calm, organised and brand-aligned, with a clear focus on usability. The café now operates smoothly in a high-traffic area, with joinery that holds up to daily wear while maintaining a soft, refined look. Customers enjoy a light, spacious interior with clean lines and a cohesive finish, while staff benefit from an intuitive workspace that supports efficient service.
